Last night, Jeff and I each attended our first Christmas parties of the season. He hosted a holiday open house for his boss, and I attended Ladies’ Dessert Night — our church’s annual Christmas party for the Women’s Ministry.
Instead of just being a guest this year, I co-hosted a table with my friend Christine for the women from our weekly Thursday night couples’ Bible study. Unlike my pre-marriage home church, which puts on a full dinner, Rose Drive’s annual event really is just deserts even though it is held during dinner time.
So, this year, we decided to to serve a light dinner to our table instead of just desserts. Christine provided the table decorations and settings, and made a delicious assortment of finger sandwiches (pimento cheese in marbled rye, chicken salad in croissants and grilled vegetables in focaccia). I made a festive Fall salad (mixed greens, apples, dried cranberries, toasted walnuts, feta and a cranberry vinaigrette dressing) and brought all of the desserts.
Our table mates loved the expanded menu this year! And as all the women walked around looking at all the gorgeous table settings, we overheard many commenting on how our table provided dinner, too, instead of just desserts — so we’re curious to see how many others follow suit next at next year’s event.
