Tea & Teacups in Yorba Linda, California

Last month, I took my Mom out to afternoon tea in Yorba Linda for an early lunch before we set off for the big annual quilt show a few blocks away.  Despite living nearby, and passing it at least a few days a week, this lunch was my first visit to the Tea & Teacups tea room and gift shop located across the street from old town Yorba Linda and the Yorba Linda Public Library.

The tea room is hidden away in a strip mall and looks deceptively small from the street.  Guests enter through the gift shop, which is filled with all sorts of British imports and dainty pretty things, including the scent of candles and potpourri.  The team room, while visible from the store front, is nicely hidden away behind screens that offer tea room guests privacy from store browsers.

Although there are a large number of tables crowded into the team room, we did not feel “crowded” at all.  Our reservation was noon, so most of the tables were full, yet Mom and I felt like we had privacy and couldn’t overhear the conversations of other guests at nearby tables.  Service was excellent, prompt  and attentive, and best of all, we did not feel rushed in the least (I think we stayed for almost 1-1/2 hours).

Now for the good stuff….the tea and food.  Their tea list is extensive, and guests are welcome to try many different flavors (Mom and I fell inlove with the Raspberry Cream tea, so stuck with several pots of that flavor).  Since this was our actual full lunch, yet we didn’t want to eat so much that we wouldn’t feel like walking around the quilt show for a couple hours, we each ordered the Elegant Tea ($16.50 ea) and split a slice of delicious spinach quiche a la carte ($5.00).  The Elegant Tea includes for each person: a bottomless pot of tea, a small bowl of one of their soups of the day (we both chose the ultra fabulous chilled strawberry soup), an assortment of 5 delicious dainty finger sandwiches, and your choice of dessert or a warm scone accompanied by strawberry jam and Devonshire cream (we both opted for the mouth-watering warm scones).

I do highly recommend Tea & Teacups anytime you’re in the north Orange County area and want a special ladies’ lunch or to host a special event for the girls.  I can’t wait to go back!

One thing I should point out is that Tea & Teacups offers some very good weekday deals, including a few more affordable lunchtime options, which make it a great choice for a special work day lunch too.
